atelier lachaert dhanis
Sofie Lachaert and Luc d’Hanis are the artistic duo behind Belgian atelier lachaert dhanis. For over two decades they have been creating works ranging from fine art to design and site specific installations, ultimately seeking to investigate the boundaries between each practice. Their pieces are conceptual first, often deceptive and always interrogative.
The collaboration between the couple and the gallery began with the hugely successful "Just a Chair" series, in which the artists intervention provided a renewed context and significance to everyday objects that have become familiar and almost invisible. The series includes Trio, Two in One and the sold out Crossed Leg Chairs.
In 2018, the acclaimed exhibition "Trompe l’Oeil" marked the first solo show of the artists with the gallery, presenting apparently bodged stools, steps and tables made in roughed-up marble and pieces of heavy bronze masquerading as cheap planks of wood.
The artists’ work has been shown internationally and has featured in major group exhibitions held, most notably, at Grand-Hornu, Belgium, Design Museum Ghent, Milan Design Week, Museum of Fine Arts Taipei, Maison des Arts, Bruxelles, and Ljubljana Architecture & Design Museum. Amongst their most ambitious projects are commissions for museum and theatre scenography for prestigious institutions such as Boijmans Van Beuningen, Rotterdam, Design Museum Ghent and the Print Room at The Coronet, London.
